It’s important to cover the Invisalign process so you know whether it’s the best option for you. Here’s a breakdown of the Invisalign retainer process.
1. Your First Appointment
Once you’ve found a dentist who offers Invisalign services like Dr. Stuart Feurstein, DMD in Mt. Kisco, New York, set up an appointment for your first consultation.
During the appointment, Dr. Feurstein will examine your mouth, take x-rays of your teeth, and decide whether you’re a suitable candidate for Invisalign.
Here, you can ask questions like “how is Invisalign made?” to learn more about the procedure, the length of the treatment, and how much it costs.
2. Creating a Dental Impression
This stage may occur during the first appointment where impressions of your teeth are made. You’ll also receive a 3D image of your teeth so you can see how each tooth’s positioning will change over the Invisalign process.
3. Fitting the Invisalign Tray
Dr. Feurstein’s office will contact you when your Invisalign mouth tray is ready. He will double-check the fit of the tray to ensure they’re comfortable and explain the aftercare program so you know how to care and wear your Invisalign retainer.
You must wear the Invisalign retainer during the day, and only remove them to eat or drink, and brush and floss. During the Invisalign process, it’s important to wear your aligners for at least 20 hours a day.
It’s important to note that we make a few Invisalign retainers for the entire treatment. You’ll have a new tray each week which you can switch out without having to visit the dentist.
4. Follow-Up Appointments
Every six to 10 weeks,
Dr. Feurstein will check
the Invisalign process to ensure your tray still fits, see how the treatment is going, and if any tweaks are necessary for your treatment plan.
Once you’ve finished the series of aligners, Dr. Feurstein will decide whether you need extra Invisalign retainers to perfect your teeth.
5. Properly Clean Your Teeth
You must uphold
excellent oral hygiene
during and after your Invisalign treatment so your smile stays fantastic.
Stick to your regular teeth cleaning appointment every six months for the best results. Luckily, you can remove your Invisalign retainer before a meal so you don’t risk getting food stuck in the wires like they do with traditional braces.
But during the process, you must keep an effort to keep your teeth and gums healthy. Always brush and floss twice a day, and clean your aligner properly too.
6. Now You Have Perfect Teeth!
Once the Invisalign process is over, you’ll have perfect teeth.
You may need to continue wearing retainers to keep your teeth straight but take time to celebrate your new, beautiful smile.
